New Website, Updates
Here are some quick updates about what’s going on in my world. In August of 2023, I started graduate school at Clemson University. It’s still surprising that this is a reality and that I am learning with such amazing people. My fellow grads are each such cool and interesting people doing work that has opened my eyes to the breadth between us. Valerie and John have been such a help with pushing me to understand what I want to say. Learning the language of art is such a mind-boggling obstacle that I’m trying to overcome.
I didn’t intend to make a new website; however, it ended up being the easiest solution after Squarespace acquired Google Domains. I wanted to get ahead of it and make sure that I could continue to develop a clear space so I could get my art out. It’s a major upgrade, and I can simplify much of my work. It’s also a major help in comparison to what was before. I’m interested in what the different tools will allow me to do, and maybe I’ll add a shop here.
Otherwise, my work is progressing nicely. I hope to post the results of my new copper red glaze that will hopefully live on at Clemson after me. The last reduction firing, unfortunately, did not turn out well. I accidentally did not have the oxy-probe in place and ended up getting re-oxidized. We’ll get it next time, for sure. Hoping by the time I post this, I’ll be firing off a soda kiln and that midterm review has gone smoothly.
Best,
Ethan
